A work table can fit the wall and still be wrong for the kitchen. A deep top may crowd the aisle. An undershelf may block the ingredient bins you planned to park underneath. A table chosen for prep may not be suitable for a heavy countertop machine.
Start with the job the table needs to do, then compare its dimensions and construction. This checklist will help you narrow down the commercial work tables at EastFair before you order.
1. Measure the working space, not just the empty space
Record the available length, depth and working height. Then check what happens around the table during service: refrigerator doors opening, staff passing each other, carts turning and bins being pulled out.
For example, a 30-inch-deep table takes up six more inches of floor depth than a 24-inch-deep table. Mark both footprints with tape before choosing. The extra work surface is useful only if the surrounding station still works.
- Measure doorways, hallway turns and the route from the receiving area.
- Include handles, nearby doors and any wall projections in your sketch.
- Check the manufacturer's dimension drawing so you know which measurement is width, depth and overall height.
2. Decide whether you need a backsplash
A backsplash creates a raised rear edge. Consider it for a station positioned against a wall; choose a flat top when access from both sides is important, such as an island prep station or packing bench.
Before ordering a backsplash model, check its height against outlets, wall shelving and adjacent equipment. Do not assume the listed working height includes the top of the backsplash.
EastFair carries both flat-top options and models such as the Thorinox worktable with backsplash, stainless steel legs and undershelf.
3. Plan what goes underneath
An undershelf is useful for the tools and containers assigned to that station. It also occupies space you might need for a mobile bin, cart or a seated task.
Measure the actual items you want to store, including lids and handles. Check the clear space between the legs and above the shelf, rather than relying on the tabletop dimensions. If you need an open base, ask for a suitable configuration; do not assume a shelf can be removed without affecting the table's intended assembly.
4. Read the materials for each component
A stainless steel top does not mean every part of the table is stainless steel. Compare the top, legs and undershelf separately.
For example, the North Star Premium S/S Worktable lists a stainless steel top and undershelf. EastFair also offers a Thorinox model with a stainless steel top and galvanized steel legs and undershelf. These are different constructions, even though both can appear in a search for stainless steel work tables.
If you are comparing steel grade or gauge, use the specification for the exact model. Ask about suitability for your cleaning routine and work area instead of choosing from the product photo alone.
5. Check the load before adding equipment
List everything that will sit on the table at the same time: the machine, its contents, ingredient containers and tools. For a mixer, slicer or other machine, also check the equipment manufacturer's support requirements.
Terms such as “heavy duty” are not a substitute for a model-specific load rating. Confirm the tabletop and undershelf limits separately, how the load must be distributed, and whether the table is intended for the equipment you plan to use. If a rating is not listed, ask before ordering.
6. Confirm assembly, feet and delivery details
Check whether the table arrives assembled or requires assembly, which components are included, and whether its feet provide the adjustment you need. If mobility matters, confirm a compatible caster option and the resulting height and load rating.
Before paying, confirm the selected size, availability, delivery arrangements and access requirements. A product photograph may represent several size variants.
Your pre-order checklist
- Station task and measured footprint
- Required working height and backsplash choice
- Clearance for doors, staff, carts and storage
- Top, leg and undershelf materials
- Confirmed load ratings and equipment suitability
- Assembly, access and delivery arrangements
